Paintwork – what STOLAM has to offer
We carry out the painting process in-house, which allows us to control every stage of the process and ensure a high standard of workmanship. We can tailor the type of coating to the nature of the component, the properties of the material and the operating conditions. We protect plastic parts, including fibreglass laminates, with coatings that are individually tailored to each project. The coating does not merely serve an aesthetic purpose – its role is to protect the surface from external influences and prepare the component for further use.
The coating process involves preparing the surface through thorough matting, cleaning and degreasing. We then apply a suitably selected coating, taking into account the technical requirements and operating conditions of the component.
Effectiveness of the coating
A suitably selected coating protects GRP components from water, moisture, changing weather conditions and UV radiation. The surface becomes resistant to mechanical damage and chemical influences whilst retaining an aesthetic, uniform appearance. A crucial factor is the adhesion of the paints to the plastic surface. For this reason, every part is carefully prepared before painting, and the application process takes into account parameters such as temperature and drying time.
Once the painting process is complete, every coating undergoes quality control. We check the adhesion, colour uniformity and condition of the surface. We can guarantee that the finished parts meet the technical requirements and retain their durability during operation.
How can the durability of a paint finish be ensured?
The durability of the paint coating depends on several crucial process steps. The basis is the correct preparation of the surface and the selection of a technology tailored to the specific component and its intended use. During the painting process, we monitor application parameters such as humidity, temperature and drying time, thereby achieving high-quality coatings with reproducible properties. It is also important to adapt the type of coating to the operating conditions – including resistance to UV radiation, water and chemical influences.
Each component undergoes a thorough quality control check after painting. We inspect the condition of the surface, the adhesion of the paintwork and compliance with project requirements. The finished components are ready for assembly and further use without any further work. Painting is carried out in close coordination with the production of the GRP components, thereby minimising the risk of errors and optimising the entire production process.
Stainless steel parts
and aluminium
We supply and install stainless steel and aluminium components as part of GRP composite parts. These parts are manufactured by trusted partners, whilst we handle their integration into the composite material ourselves. The metal parts fulfil assembly and structural functions – these include, amongst other things, brackets, supports, fastenings and reinforcements. Depending on the intended application, lamination, bonding or mechanical assembly is used.
The method is adapted to the shape of the component, the type of loads and the geometry of the workpiece. The integration process comprises:
- checking the part dimensions prior to assembly,
- selection of adhesive systems or joining methods compatible with the laminate,
- the use of fasteners during mechanical assembly,
- quality control of the joints upon completion of the work.
The joints are designed and executed in such a way that they do not compromise the structure of the laminate and do not interfere with the component’s geometry. We also take into account the nature of the subsequent assembly as well as the aesthetics of the surface. The finished component forms a uniform unit; GRP and metal parts are firmly integrated and prepared for use under demanding conditions.
Transport and delivery of finished parts
At STOLAM, we organise the transport of finished components, including GRP parts, painted parts and larger structures such as tanks or housings. Each product is suitably protected against mechanical damage, scratches and deformation that could occur during transport.
We select the type of packaging and securing method according to the type of component and its dimensions. In doing so, we take into account the specific characteristics of the painted surface to ensure that the coating is not damaged during transport. The entire delivery process is coordinated with a focus on punctuality and safety. The customer receives the finished components – secured and ready for assembly – without having to organise additional transport.
End-to-end service – from design to delivery
We deliver projects from a single source – from the design phase through the manufacture of GRP components and painting to the assembly of metal components and transport. The individual phases are interlinked, enabling us to maintain control over quality and compliance with the technical documentation. Every component is checked for workmanship, fit and durability. The finished components are ready for direct assembly – without the need for any additional processing or adjustment by the customer.
This approach reduces the risk of errors, simplifies coordination and ensures a predictable process – from the initial designs right through to the delivery of the finished parts. If you wish to commission the painting of GRP parts, including transport, we will prepare the finished parts and deliver them directly to the installation site.
